1. Best All Round Epilator for Women Face & Body – Braun Silk-Epil 9 Flex

It’s no surprise that a Braun product comes out on top as a fantastic all-rounder for expert epilating. This staple brand has been leaders in the world of beauty tech for decades (can you believe they’ve been around since 1921?).

The Braun Silk-Epil 9 Flex is the latest model from a Brand that almost certainly offers the best choice in epilators.

It is a completely different design from the other models in the silk epil range like the 9 or the 7, with a narrow body and a fully flexible tweezer head.

However similarly to those models, it packs the many features that have given Braun epilators the reputation they have for innovation and solid performance. Features like the wide epilation head and the micro grip tweezer technology, as well as the built-in smart light, are just some of what you can expect.

Braun’s investment in quality is clear. The gold detail and lightweight body make it both stylish and easy to use. Braun has, after all, some of the best-rated products on the market when you consider the range of products the have.

Furthermore, the ‘SensoSmart’ technology indicates when you’re applying the right pressure – perfect for newcomers to the process.

The Braun 9 Flex is a cordless epilator, meaning you don’t need to worry about wires getting in the way. Equally important, it’s 100% waterproof, so you can use it in the bath or shower for a more comfortable epilating experience.

It is far from the cheapest epilator out there, but the added extras including a facial cap, shaver trimmer attachment as well as a special pouch for storage and travel do add a lot of value.

The only real downside to this all-singing, all-dancing device is the price.

For those new to epilating, it might pay to get comfortable with something cheaper, and work your way up to the Silk-epil Flex if you decide epilating is the way to go.

NOTE: The Braun Silk-Epil 9 Flex also includes EITHER an exfoliating brush OR a deep massaging pad which helps to tone the skin. Make sure you check the model to see what is included. The one above has the exfoliating brush,

Best Value in the Braun Silk Epil 9 Flex

The very best value in the Silk Epil 9 Flex is the Beauty Set 9 300. This includes the Braun 9 Flex, a dedicated face epilator ** see below for best face epilator ** and face and body cleansing and massaging brushes for not much more money than the Flex with one brush,

2. Best Epilator for Legs – Emjoi Emagine AP18

Moving swiftly on from the slightly unusual name, the Emjoi Emagine 72 Tweezer Head Dry Epilator has serious hair-removing power and is a perfect leg epilator. It holds two rotating discs, each containing 36 tweezers, and these rotate across the skin in opposing directions, helping to pull the skin taut. This enlarges the hair follicles and helps to reduce pain.

Your legs are where you can have the most fun with epilating – they’re a wide, accessible ‘plain’ of skin, so easy to glide an epilator across. You’ll be able to see clearly just how quick and effective epilating can be.

The Emjoi Emagine also includes a row of so-called “lifting fingers”, a small, indented ridge that lifts the hair up, ready to be plucked by the tweezers. This enables the Emagine to collect hairs as short as 0.5mm. Furthermore, this system is helpful in preventing ingrown hairs.

The Emagine can be used to remove upper lip hair and hair on the chin too but it’s not recommended by the company for any other facial hair. The bulky head is difficult to maneuver in this area, and the whopping 72 tweezer head is probably a touch of overkill for delicate facial hair. You could use it as a dedicated chin hair epilator as it works well for coarse hair.

Essentially, the Emagine AP18 is the best emjoi epilator for epilating larger areas of the body like legs or arms. It’s solid, robust, and a great option for new epilators or equally, anyone in the market for a new device. It’s a corded epilator too so make sure you can epilate near a power source.

Another plus is the option to purchase a replacement head which makes it a really good value epilator and should keep you going for a long time.

WHAT WE LIKE

  • 72 Tweezer head
  • Replacement heads available
  • Patented technology

WHAT WE DIDN’T

  • Needs to be plugged in to use

3. Best Epilator for Face – Braun FaceSpa Pro

When it comes to your face, you can of course go in all guns blazing with your regular epilator. But don’t forget, your face is more delicate, more sensitive, and has a lower pain tolerance than other parts of your body. So it really is a personal choice. You should approach with caution and perhaps go for something specifically designed for facial hair.

The Braun FaceSpa Pro was built for this exact purpose. It’s a sleek, white, slimline device that tapers to a narrow head – about the width of a marker pen.

In contrast to the Emjoi Emagine’s mighty 72 tweezer head, the FaceSpa Pro has just 10, making it a much gentler and more suitable epilator for women for fine hair on the cheeks, chin, and upper lip. It’s even nimble enough to maneuver under the eyebrows – much quicker than plucking hairs individually.

The best part is, this state-of-the-art piece of beauty tech is not just an epilator, but has a “MicroVibrating” toning head for applying creams and serums. It also comes with a purifying, deep-cleansing brush.. Talk about a stylish, pampering, and covetous accessory. It can fit right into your makeup bag and also makes a pretty impressive gift.

It might also be suitable for some light bikini line trimming.

WHAT WE LIKE

  • Dedicated facial epilator
  • Best eyebrow epilator
  • Gentle for removing fine facial hair
  • Complete facial skincare system – epilation, cleansing & toning

WHAT WE DIDN’T

  • Additional skincare accessories add to the price

4. Best Epilator for Bikini Area – Conair Satiny Smooth Total Body

In the slightly more daunting territory of the bikini line, you want an epilator that’s swift, gentle, and reliable, and one that’s not going to complicate matters with unnecessary technology.

The Conair Satiny Smooth epilator consists of just 22 tweezer heads set in a circular device that fits nicely in the palm of your hand. Its shape is different to many of the other epilators available and allows for easy access to trickier areas from the comfort of home.

The Satiny Smooth can be used either plugged in or cordless. However, in this case, just because it can be used without a cord – you cannot use it in the shower.

It’s nimble, simple, and efficient, as is the price at around $3o. It has two speeds and two caps – one with a broader gap to allow access to larger areas like the legs or arms and one with a narrow gap to target smaller areas like the bikini area.

This is almost a ‘does what it says on the tin’ kind of product. It’s a purpose-built body epilator through and through, that doesn’t multi-task with shaving or trimming attachments. Overall, its quick, simple and no-fuss.

WHAT WE LIKE

  • Can be used with or without a cord
  • Neat design
  • Very affordable
  • Good for coarse hair
  • All over body epilator

WHAT WE DIDN’T

  • Long charge time if you plan to use cordless

5. Best Epilator for Beginners – Emjoi eRase e60

This is a smaller (and prettier!) version of the Emjoi Emagine in that you have the same powerful technology, in a more compact form. Although it’s around two-thirds the size of the Emagine, it still packs in 60 tweezers, in dual opposed heads, providing the same skin stretching effect for easier, less painful hair removal.

The Emjoi eRase 60 is an electric, corded epilator, so you don’t need to worry about charging it up, but this does of course mean you can’t use it in the shower or bath. It doesn’t come with the bells and whistles offered by some other epilation products, but this may actually be a plus point for those seeking a straightforward, no-frills experience. You just plugin and go.

This cute, affordable option might appeal to a younger demographic. Additionally, it comes in pink, blue or floral patterned. But girly though it may be, it’s still a powerful device that’s easy to use and gets results. Fantastic for first-timers.

WHAT WE LIKE

  • Lightweight and compact
  • 60 Tweezers
  • Shaver head (if you get the 2-in-1 model)

WHAT WE DIDN’T

  • No light

6. Best Cheap Epilator – Braun Silk Epil 3

You’ll probably have noticed by now that there are a few differently-numbered products within the Braun epilator range. Essentially – the higher the number, the later the model and the fancier (and more costly) the device.

With the Braun Silk-epil 3, you get the landmark reliability of Braun technology at a much more accessible entry point.

The Braun 3 is small – just a bit larger than the palm of your hand – but still comes with extra’s, depending on the model. It could be the shaver head or the bikini trimmer. It also has a similar feature to the Silk-epil 9 – a ‘Smart Light’ that illuminates your skin as you go, allowing you to detect even the smallest hairs. This is particularly handy for epilating in areas that don’t have natural light.

The Braun 3’s rollers are described as ‘massage rollers’ – they’re lightly padded with rubber to massage and stimulate your skin as you go, adding comfort to the experience. Considering the price is around a third of the Silk-epil 9, this is a great value epilator with a few nice bonuses.

WHAT WE LIKE

  • Smartlight
  • Great value epilator
  • Comes with extras
  • Easy to clean

WHAT WE DIDN’T

  • Can be time consuming to use for legs or large areas, especially when just starting to epilate

7. Best Epilator for Sensitive Skin – Philips Satinelle Advanced

In contrast to the Conair Satiny Smooth, the Phillips Satinelle Advanced is an indulgent and rather covetous device and comes in a nice drawstring pouch. It looks the part and is attractive enough to rival the Braun Silk-epil 9, with lilac detailing and a super-slim, S-shaped handle.

It’s a bit lower priced that the Braun Silk epil 9 but still pricy enough for just an epilator. We recommend you only invest in this product if you’re sure epilation is the hair-removal method for you.

Two precision caps are included for targeted hair removal and it promises to remove hairs as short as 0.3mm. It also has a built-in ‘opti-light’ for guidance. It’s another cordless epilator and can be used wet or dry.

The Phillips Satinelle really doesn’t leave you asking for anything. It does the job, is gentle and it’ll look great on your bathroom counter.

WHAT WE LIKE

  • All body epilator
  • Unique ceramic tweezers
  • 40 mins use when fully charged
  • Light
  • Gentle epilator

WHAT WE DIDN’T

  • No additional extras

8. Best Epilator for Underarms – Panasonic Cordless Wet and Dry Epilator and Shaver

For epilating underarms, we were going to recommend the Philips Satinelle Epilator HP6401 which is a simple, no-frills epilator for home use. It’s very affordable, small, and works great. The only downside to this one for epilating armpits is the absence of a light. As someone who NEEDS this feature, especially in this area, there are other, better options.

Enter the Panasonic Wet/Dry Epilator (red). This is not only perfect for removing underarm hair but is a great all-in-one multi-tasking device. It’s got a wide epilation head to suit arms and legs and for epilating underarms, simply pop on the gentle epilation cap which covers off some of the tweezers for sensitive areas. You can also use it on the bikini area.

It comes with 6 different attachments including a shaver head with a really neat and useful feature, a pop-up trimmer. Having such an attachment is particularly useful for epilating underarms or the bikini area if you’ve let the hair grow out much. The truth is epilating long hair hurts more.

Another attachment is a pedicure buffer to help keep the skin on your feet soft and smooth.

This is really a good value epilator for full body but not as high spec as the Braun Silk Epil 9. On the plus side, it also doesn’t cost as much!

WHAT WE LIKE

  • Pivoting head
  • Built-in light
  • Waterproof/washable
  • All in one epilator
  • 6 extra attachments including shaver and pedicure buffer

WHAT WE DIDN’T

  • Must be charged up before use

9. Best Epilator With Bikini Trimmer – Braun Silk Epil 5

Although we recommend the Conair Satiny Smooth epilator for epilating the bikini area – lots of consumers may not be interested in epilating their pubic hair but would still like a tool to trim “down there”.

The Braun Silk-epil 5 with bikini trimmer allows you to do just that. Moreover, it claims to be capable of removing hairs as short as a grain of sand, using micro-grip tweezer technology to achieve this. It also has a speed setting for extra gentle hair removal, making it the perfect solution for hair removal in sensitive areas.

Although it’s considerably cheaper than the Braun Silk-epil 9 (it’s actually priced much closer to the 7), it comes with the same SensoSmart technology, alerting you when you’re pressing too hard. This is such an advantage when it comes to those still refining their epilatory skills.

It does only have 28 tweezers, which sounds like few compared to what the Emjoi devices offer, so you might find yourself spending a little extra time going over the same areas. Nonetheless, it’s a good middle ground epilator for those wanting a quality experience without having to invest too much at the outset.

Another point worth noting is the bikini styler alone would set you back around $20.

WHAT WE LIKE

  • Bikini styler
  • Shaver head
  • Anti-slip grip

WHAT WE DIDN:T

  • No light

**Different models come with different accessories but we love this one for the bikini trimmer. If you’re someone who likes to epilate your bikini line or even go for a Brazilian, this is a must-have tool**

10. Best Epilator With Exfoliation Face Attachment – Got To Be Braun Silk Epil 9

It might not come as a surprise, but it’s just got to be Braun for the variety of attachments and skincare tools.

Braun has really nailed it with their adaptable models for different uses and has expertly designed their attachments to produce the best possible tools for not only comfortable epilation but also for complete skincare. Reviews online are highly positive too.

The Braun Silk Epil 9 – besides being available in the Flex model we saw above or as an epilator package, with extra caps, shaver, etc, is also available in what they call a SkinSpa range. It includes the Braun Silk Epil 9 rose gold epilator, which was the latest Braun model and one of the best-selling epilators before the Flex, and combines with various exfoliating brush and pad heads depending on what you are looking for.

There are a variety of combinations to choose from. You have different model epilators as well as the different cleansing and exfoliating brushes so its important to check what comes in the box.

Below are 2 examples – the Braun 5 Starter Kit – or Beauty Set 5 is available for around $100 while the Braun Silk 9 has 12 extras including the shaver/trimmer and a set of brushes and of course costs a lot more.

Braun Starter Kit

Braun Silk 9 SkinSpa

Is It Worth The Money?

Before you decide if any of these beauty sets or epilators with exfoliation brushes are worth it, you really need to break it down and consider what you’re getting for your money.

These sets are for people who are interested in more than hair removal. They want a skincare package. With these sets, you can shave or trim, epilate, cleanse, exfoliate, and depending on your model, tone and apply serums too.

Braun’s products have a solid reputation for performance and results. If you were to buy a shaver or trimmer separately, for example, you’re probably looking at around $30 each. Furthermore, a facial cleansing brush is another $20 or so and yet another $40 or more for a decent epilator.

With that in mind, and not forgetting these are tools for convenient, at home use, we think you’ll agree, for something that can do it all, the Braun Silk-epil 9 is a pretty good deal.

In Summary

To recap and to help you choose the best epilator for your needs, its a good idea to have a couple of things in mind before you make that final purchase.

Your budget: Epilators, for instance, are available from around $30 to over $200 depending on what you are looking for. At the same time, any additional extras and brushes will jack up the price. The question is – will you use them?

Body parts: Where do you plan to use your epilator? We’ve given a round-up of the best epilators below and broken them down for different areas but you can’t go wrong with a Braun or Philips for guaranteed quality anywhere.

Just bear in mind, if you go for a small epilator like the Braun Silk 3 and your primary focus is epilating legs, it will take a bit longer to do than using something like the Emjoi AP18. I

Corded or cordless: Will you be able to comfortably epilate beside a power outlet for example? If not, you might want to consider a cordless model.

If you struggle with your new epilator to begin with, remember this is a process that requires practice and technique, so give yourself plenty of time to learn.
